"Flowers in the Rain" (Wood; Westminster Music Ltd.) [ ]
6 September 1967, UK#2
The Move: Roy Wood (vocals and guitar), Trevor Burton (guitar), Carl Wayne (vocals), Ace Kefford (bass), Bev Bevan (drums) with unidentified oboes (or oboe and English horn) and bassoon. Produced by Denny Cordell with Tony Visconti (music director) and engineers.
The Move. 1991. The Best of the Move [11]. Watford, Hertfordshire: Music Collection Int. [Music Club MCCD 009]

Publicized by a postcard displaying an image of PM Harold Wilson naked in the bath Wilson sued the band and the record company, seizing the royalties (between $23,000 to $29,000) and donating them to two charities, the British Spastics Society and the Stoke Mandeville Hospital.
The recording had the distinction of being the first to be played on the new BBC 1 when it premiered on 30 September 1967 after Marine Offenses Act (outlawing offshore radio broadcasts) went into effect. The BBC also used the recording as advertising for the appearance of their FM channel.
Visconti recorded the woodwinds at half-speed and, when they played the tape at regular speed, the instruments sounded faster and higher, giving them a peculiar sound.

Text
Woke up one morning, half-asleep, with all my blankets in a heap, and yellow roses scattered all around.
The time was still approaching for I couldn't stand it anymore, some marigolds upon my eiderdown.
a
I'm just sitting watching flowers in the rain, feel the power of the rain, making the garden grow.
I'm just sitting watching flowers in the rain, feel the power of the rain, keeping me cool.
b
So I lay upon my side with all the windows open wide. Couldn't pressurize my head from speaking.
Hoping that you'll make a sound I pushed my bed into the grounds in time to get the sight that I was seeking.
c
If this perfect place, it has to be, then this is how it has to be,
If my pillow's getting wet I can't see that it matters much to me.
d
I heard the flowers in the breeze make conversation with the trees. Relieved to leave reality behind me.
With my commitments in a mess, my sleep has gone away with rest, In a world of fantasy you'll find me.
e
Watching flowers in the rain. Watching flowers in the rain. f
