Shobha Gurtu (1925-2004) grew up in a musical home with a mother who had been a professional dancer and disciple of the founder of the Jaipur gharana, Ustad Alladiya Khan. Shobha studied with both Ustad Nathan Khan and Ghamman Khan, as well as learning from her father-in-law, Pandit Narayan Nath Gurtu.
She had been inducted into the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1989 and was made Padma Bhushan by government of India.

Rāg Jaijaivanti
Bhatkhande (KPM 4:280-281) puts this rāg in Khamāj ṭhāṭ with ṛiṣabh as its vādi and pañcam as the samvādi. He puts its performance time as the second partition of the evening. He notes that both versions of gāndhār appear in this rāg, as well as both versions of niṣād so that in ascent, the raised versions of gāndhār and niṣād appear and in descent, they are flatted.
