| Reading
and Listening Materials: The principal readings for this class
are these web pages which include recordings, photos, and notes.
Most listening examples we study will be available on this website.
Other materials (recordings and publications) will be distributed or will are available through
the library. |

| Quizzes. There will be six tests constituting 50% of your grade.
These will test your memory and knowledge of terms and ideas and
your ability to recognize musical examples. Your final grade for
the quizzes will be an average of your quiz grades. |

| Response Essays. Write six short (200-word) approximately biweekly response essays on topics we encounter in the course. In each essay, choose a specific topic from the subjects listed for each assignment, find two authors/sources, and compare what they say about the topic. List your sources at the end of the essay and use the MLA citation and bibliography styles described in the Skidmore Guide to Writing. Essays grades derive from these criteria. |
