Notes and Quotes: |
After spending part of the winter in Rishikesh with the Beatles and the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Donovan returned with a number of songs and ideas about how he wanted them to sound. |
Donovan: The hurdy gurdy man is a chronicler, the hurdy gurdy man is like a bard, and the hurdy gurdy man is any singer-songwriter in any age.... Any singer for peace is a hurdy gurdy man." (Zollo) |
Donovan: I told Mickie Most, "I've written this song," he recalls. He said, "What is it?" And I could never figure out what singles were and what they weren't, so I thought it was just another song I wrote. I played it through for Mickie Most, and I said, "I want to give it to Hendrix." Mickie said, "No, it's for you. It's a single." I said, "Oh? Well, alright. Well, let's get Hendrix to play on it." So, we phoned him up and he was touring, and he was not available on the time we were gonna record the song. (Goldmine) |
John Paul Jones: It was me, Alan Parker on guitar, and Clem Cattini on drums. Donovan played acoustic guitar. I booked the session. (Kryk 2001) |
