Syd picked up the guitar and followed what I was humming chord-wise. The chord pattern he worked out [became] the main riff for 'Interstellar Overdrive.'" (NME; Schaffner 143)
They build their second section on other popular "psychedelic jam" pieces of the time, notably Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love," by taking part of the bass line for this song and repeating it as an accompaniment for other extemporizations.
Love, "My Little Red Book" (Bacharach and David) [Elektra EK 45603] (US and UK release, 1966)
This purely instrumental performance, like "Astronomy Domine," bears resemblance to the Sonata form of the Western classical tradition in which (a) an introduction establishes the key center and meter, followed by (b) an exposition in which one or more themes appear, followed by (c) a development of these these musical themes in various guises, followed by (c) a recapitulation in which restatement of the original (but transformed) themes appears, with (d) a coda concluding the movement.
