Norman
Smith: I was very interested in sound and being an arranger,
I couldn’t really obtain the kind of sounds from traditional instrumentation.
And to myself, I would make these kinds of sounds in my head and I thought,
“Now what the hell…” —this was before any of the electronic things started
coming out—“What the hell could that be? What instrument or new instrument
could I get closest to, to get this kind of sound in my head.” So, I was
very interested in sounds and, of course, this is something that I did
share with Pink Floyd. They were very much interested in sounds, and perhaps
sounds I haven’t even heard before. So we did spend a lot of time in trying
to develop those kind of sounds. (31 October 2001) |
