Wyman: We recorded for three days at RCA with Dave Hassinger, cutting more than 20 tracks.... Brian was at his creative peak with the band around this time. While the songs were all written by Mick and Keith, it was Brian's musical abilities that made those recordings sound so much better than they might otherwise have done. (2002: 222)

Oldham: Brian's contribution can be heard on every track of those recordings at RCA. What that guy didn't play, he went out and learned. You can hear his colour all over songs like "Lady Jane" or "Paint It, Black." In some instances it was more than a decorative effect. Sometimes Brian pulled the whole record together.
