The importance of British rock and pop was such that by the end of 1965 and early 1966, London had become a major fashion center feeding both the successful as well as their imitators. This was the era of "Swinging London" chronicled in Time Magazine (at a point at which the scene had already evolved into something rather different). The center of this fashion world was West London and, in particular the area in Soho around Carnaby Street.
