Again, the Animals and Most work out a musical arrangement that seeks to build direction through adding instrumental parts. This recording starts with Chandler's strong bass line sitting prominently in the recording, guitar and drums building, as Burdon works up the octave. This is the UK version of the song. (The US release was a slightly different take.)

They reworked a demo from Barry Mann's demo. Mann and Weil had written it for the Righteous Brothers (for whom they had just had a big hit with "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling"). Allen Klein had forwarded the demo to Mickie Most who had the Animals record the song before Mann had a chance to record his.
