Notes and Quotes: "Tired of Waiting" |
|
The Kinks recorded
this song as the original follow-up to "You Really Got Me." However, Talmy
convinced them that they needed a song that had clearer links to their
hit. |
The structure of the song illustrates how Ray Davies is developing
as a songwriter. Derek Johnson in NME comments that this is a "Change
of character for the Kinks" and a "departure from their raucous
broken-beat approach ... more subduedreally it's a rock ballad with
a slow shake-shuffle beat. Very nice it is too!" (Hinman 2004: 45). |
This song steps away
from the blues form and towards a through-composed form. In essence, each
of the verses has three different musical sections. The text, however,
is still very simple. Ray Davies will address this aspect of his writing
in future songs. |
