Notes and Quotes: "I'm Telling You Now" |
|
Mitch Murray
was a hot property on Denmark Street in 1963. Gerry and the Pacemakers
had already had a hit with his "How Do You Do It?" in March and
"I'm Telling You Now" has much of the same happy feel. [Clayson
(1995:143) suggests that Garrity was co-composer of this song with
Murray on this tune. However, other sources do not support this
assertion.] |
In general,
although Murray was happy to have his songs recorded, he was often
less than pleased with the quality of the performances. Garrity's
treatment of his songs often failed to live up to Murray's expectations. |
Garrity's voice (with
its fast vibrato) is double-tracked. Only one guitar appears prominently
with the second guitar buried in the mix with the bass and drums. The
solo guitarist has a track to himself, suggesting that a studio musician
probably overdubbed the part. |
