Sheffield: Forms the Cruisers with other Sheffield musicians to perform covers of Chuck Berry, Gene Vincent, and other US rockers. The Cruisers include Frank White (guitar), Alan Taylor (guitar), Peter Cliff (bass), and John Riley (drums).
 
1963 [age 19-20]
Manchester: Dave Berry and the Cruisers sign with Danny Betesh, Kennedy Street Enterprises
Berry develops a unique way of presenting songs, writhing with the microphone and always dressed in black.
London: Dave Berry and the Cruisers sign with Decca Records
19 September: "Memphis, Tennessee" / "Tossin' and Turnin'" [Decca F 11734, charts, UK #19]

Decca decides to promote Dave as a soloist, although the Cruisers remain his backup band.
