"Baby, It's You" (David, Williams, and Bacharach) [2:35]
Recorded on 11 February 1963 and released on Please Please Me, 22 March 1963.
The Beatles: John Lennon (lead vocal and guitar), Paul McCartney (vocal and bass guitar), George Harrison (vocal and guitar solo), George Martin (celeste solo), and Ringo Starr (drums).
George Martin (producer). Norman Smith (1st) and Richard Langham (2nd) engineers.
The Beatles. 1963. Please Please Me [10]. London: EMI Records Ltd. [Parolophone CDP 7 46435 2]

"Girl group" songs featured a solo vocal with either sustained supporting vocals or gospel-like responses where the chorus seems to comment on the soloist's text. The models were probably in gospel music, but this David, Williams, and Bacharach arrangement is pure American pop. The Beatles' version is very close to the Shirelles's original version, right down to the notes of the guitar solo, doubled by a celeste played by George Martin.

Text
It's not the way you smiled that touched my heart, It's not the way you kiss that tears me apart. Uh oh...,
Many..., nights go by, I sit alone at home and I cry over you, what can I do,
Can't help my self, 'cause baby it's you.
a
Baby it's you. b
You should hear what they say about you (cheat, cheat). They say you'll never..., ever be true. Uh oh...,
It doesn't matter what they say, I know I'm gonna love you any old way. What can I do, and it's true.
Don't want nobody, nobody, 'cause baby it's you.
