Notes and Quotes: "Can't Buy Me Love"

McCartney writes this song while in Paris at the Georges V Hotel.

The first Beatles single not to feature vocal harmonies. Earlier versions had Lennon and Harrison joining for backing vocals, but the end version leaves McCartney singing by himself.

This also marks the first time that the Beatles record outside of EMI's studios in London. They record the backing in Paris while playing at the Olympia and return to London to finish the recording after their successful American debut.

Although Parlophone would not release many of their singles on albums, because Richard Lester included this recording in the film A Hard Day's Night, it appears on the United Artists' sound-track album.

George Harrison dubs one of the first electric twelve-string guitars (a Rickenbacker 360) onto this recording.
