Notes and Quotes: "Twist and Shout" (Beatles) |
|
Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl, 1964 |
|
A very close copy of
the Isley Brothers' original with a number of significant changes.
First, the transformation of horn materials to guitar materials
changes the flavor of the sound. Second, the Beatles elongate the
ending, adding verse material and ending with the ninth chord. The Beatles performed this on numerous occasions as part of their act. |
As the last recording of the
day, Lennon's voice has a rasp and the fatigue adds a tension that might
not have been obtained earlier in the day, despite the numerous cough
drops he consumed that night. |
