Notes and Quotes: "Sheik of Araby"

Sung by George Harrison, the Beatles seem to have included this Trad favorite in their repertoire more as a comedy item than as a serious rock or pop tune. To this end, we can hear John hamming to the microphone each time George finishes the line about creeping into his lover's tent at night. One can almost imagine Mike Smith grimacing behind the glass. Apparently the Beatles based their arrangement on a version by Joe Brown (Lewisohn 1995: 13).
