Billy Fury
b. Ronald Wycherley, 17 April 1940, Dingle, Liverpool, England;
d. 28 January 1983, London.

1958
Wycherley, a dock worker, took up skiffle and began composing his own songs. He hoped to interest singer Marty Wilde in his songs at a concert in Birkenhead; but when manager Larry Parnes heard the teen sing his material, he put him on the show. The audience loved Wycherley and Parnes had a great story with which to sell his artist.
Parnes changed the teen's name to "Billy Fury" and put him on tour with Marty Wilde and other artists whose names Parnes changed in an attempt to make them more appealing to their audiences.
